 Fun French For Families!

This Is How Our Story Began

Bonjour!  When I fell in love with my husband, the fact that his first words had been en francais just seemed a romantic detail.  When our son, a late talker, finally got out his first word, it was in English.  All of a sudden, it was serious that he learn the language of his father and grandparents.   How in the world could I teach him a language that I loved, and did not know?!?!?   There was a lot of try, try, and exhausting try again.

Language and dance has always inspired me, and chapters of my life are interwoven with song.  Music seemed like it must be the answer, even if I did not know what questions to ask. Back when the internet was in its infancy, answers were not just a click away.  Adding music and songs to our language learning adventure brought a whole new element to teaching kids French!  Instead of feeling overwhelmed by word lists, grammer rules, and "Is it le or la?!?!" we could have fun, sing and dance, AND learn at the same time!  What could be better?!?!  It was easy, and the kids did not complain!

While moving to a French speaking country and living an immersion experience would be an ideal way to learn another language, that is not practical for everyone.  For those who are living in Kitchener, Waterloo,  Cambridge, Wilmot and the surrounding area, we can help!  For those who are just starting out, and for those who are fluent and just want some support, Bilingual Bébés classes are a great choice!  Singing traditional English songs combined with actions keeps the kids engaged.  Incorporating French lyrics aids in memorization and association of the translated words. As the songs are familiar, parents find it motivating to persevere.  Having the support of other families who are also on a similar language learning adventure can be encouraging for parents.  For young children to hear other little ones speaking their target language-AMAZING!

Director  &  Instructor

Madame Cummins is a mother of six, wife, and passionate about learning!  As a former homeschooling mama, she understands that each child learns in their own way.  Her dancing background flows into her teaching style, combining movement with music.   Madame Cummins taught latin and ballroom dance for many years at the prestigious Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Kitchener.  Madame Cummins brought the joy of dance to thousands of people, teens to age 96.  She had the privilege of being coached by the best in the business; including the infamous Jean Marc Genereux, France Mousseau, Tad Joy, Charles Penatello, Michael Bickley and Cher Rutherford.   She competed and performed in Canada and the U.S.  Her choreography also pulls from her training in tap, jazz, ballet, & Irish dance, gymnastics and cheerleading.  After hanging up her dancing shoes, Madame Cummins raised children.  In 2006, reality hit.  Her level of French, and smattering of Spanish, was not sufficient to bring her children up in the language of their father.  Starting with board books and cassette tapes, progressing to CDs, classes, summer camps, countless library visits, boring  tutors and the continuous search for a native  speaker to play with the kids in the target language, language learning has been an adventure!   The programs brought to you by Bilingual Bébés. are programs that Madame Cummins wished had been available when her children were babies and young children.
